Gastroenterology is the specialty of Internal Medicine which deals with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.  Which include diseases of the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, stomach, esophagus, small bowel , the colon and the rectum.  A gastroenterologist is a doctor who has spent three years after medical school doing specialized training in Internal Medicine, and there after another three years in training in the diseases of the Liver and the Gastrointestinal system. In some cases, some of our doctors did additional training in specific areas such as advanced techniques in endoscopy, liver diseases, gallbladder diseases, and   Gastrointestinal motility.

Hepatology is a specialty of Gastroenterology.  Such Physicians as ours have a special interest in liver diseases and are involved in active research in these areas.

In Addition, We offer help in the areas of nutrition, cancer screening, and family genetic counseling for gastrointestinal diseases.

The Borland-Groover Clinic has a team of gastroenterology/hepatology specialists who have trained and in many cases have been on the faculties as researchers and teachers at leading facilities in the area of hepatology and gastroenterology in the US and abroad.

All of our physicians are Board-Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

We serve the Jacksonville area, North Florida, and Southeast Georgia from 8 conveniently located offices and at 7 hospitals.

Our Clinic originated in the 1940's in Jacksonville with the practice of the late Dr. James L. Borland, Sr., who was a pioneer in clinical gastroenterology. The Clinic has grown to include doctors with experience in basic science and clinical research. We have several active clinical research areas in Hepatitis, therapeutic endoscopy, and "out-comes' treatment studies.
